Conservation
The role of the conservation and restoration department is to create and maintain an environment that ensures that the works in the collection are protected.
The department is led by a conservator who specialises in both modern and contemporary painting, and in preventive conservation.
Preservation
Technological study of the works is used to help preserve the collection: by identifying the materials and how they have been used, we can both better document the artist’s creative process and offer recommendations that are tailored to each individual artwork, in particular during transport and exhibition (ICOM Code of Ethics).
Conservation
In addition to preventive work, remedial conservation is sometimes required. The diversity of the mediums and techniques used in the works that are part of the collections requires the involvement of many experts with experience in different areas of conservation and restoration.
